On assignment at the border between Myanmar and Bangladesh
Greetings, I'm Nathan Thompson, a freelance journalist specializing in deep coverage of Asia, reporting from Kazakhstan to The Philippines.
I have filed copy and photographs for many publications including The New York Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Slate, VICE, Salon, Christian Science Monitor, CNN and Al Jazeera.
I also work as a communications consultant providing written, photographic and video services to UN agencies, NGOs and private businesses.
I've always loved writing. As a boy, I made my own magazines (including a successful Jurrassic Park-based magazine named Spitter Attack!) and wrote regularly for our local paper, The Bucks Free Press.
In my twenties I spent time as a bohemian poet in London, running a small business giving poetry workshops in schools. I released a poetry collection in 2016. These days, I am seeking an agent for my first book and have two more in the works.
I have a degree in Philosophy and Communication Studies from Cardiff University and served as president of the Overseas Press Club of Cambodia (2016-2018).
